The small print
Privacy
We keep as little as we can, for as short a time as we can. This page says what we store and why. It follows the GDPR, because we are a company in the Netherlands.
Who is responsible
The controller of your data is Thoughts in Action BV, a company in the Netherlands. Address and registration details are on the imprint page. Write to us at support@realmofhome.com or through the contact page.
What we store, why, and for how long
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The addresses you type, the places you pick on the map, and the names, years, captions, title and dedication you add. An address can identify a person, so we treat it as personal data. | To draw your plate and deliver it. | Addresses and previews are deleted 90 days after you typed them. Your delivered plates stay on your download page for 365 days after delivery, then they are deleted. You can delete everything yourself at any time. |
| Your email address and, if you give it, your name | To send your download link and receipt, and to answer you. | For the life of the order record (see below), and for as long as you write to us. |
| Order details: what you bought, the amount, the currency, the tax, the country, the date | To run the order, to refund you if needed, and to keep accounts as the law requires. | For as long as tax law requires. In the Netherlands this is normally seven years. The record holds no address and no captions. |
| For a gift: the name and, if you give it, the email address of the person who gets it, your note and the reveal date | To unveil the plate on the day. The email address is used for that one message. | With the order. |
| Your messages to us, with your name, email address and order number | To answer you. | Until the matter is closed, and a reasonable time after. |
| Your email address and country, if you join a waiting list | To write to you once, when your country opens. | Deleted after we write to you, or after one year at the latest. |
| Your IP address | To stop abuse, for example by limiting how often one connection can send a request. | Used while it happens and not stored with your order. Our hosting provider may keep technical logs for a short time. |
| Anonymous counts: previews started, orders made, pages opened | To see whether the site works. | As long as they stay anonymous. They hold no address, no name and no IP address. |
We do not use advertising trackers, we do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We make no decisions about you by computer that have legal effects on you.
The site sets no cookies. Your browser keeps a few small things for convenience: the country you picked, your language and the list of plates you opened on this device. If you tap “Save for offline” on your download page, the page and your files are kept in your browser on that device until you remove them there. Deleting your files on our server asks the browser to forget them too.
Why we may use your data
- To carry out the order you make with us (GDPR article 6(1)(b)): your address and texts, your email, delivery, corrections, refunds and support.
- To meet a legal duty (article 6(1)(c)): the order record that tax law tells us to keep.
- Our legitimate interest (article 6(1)(f)): keeping the site safe, stopping abuse, and counting anonymously how the site is used.
- Your consent (article 6(1)(a)): the waiting list. You can take it back at any time.
Who else sees your data
- Map lookups. To find your address on the map, the text of the address is sent to a public address service (for countries without their own service: Photon by komoot, Germany): the US Census Geocoder for addresses in the United States, and PDOK for addresses in the Netherlands. These services see the address text you typed. They do not receive your name or your email address. Requests for the map data around the address contain coordinates of the area, not your name or email.
- Payments. Stripe processes your card payment. We never see your card number. Stripe has its own privacy notice and may handle data outside the EU.
- Hosting and email. Our website is hosted by a hosting provider and our emails are sent through an email provider. Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, in Germany. Email: Google Workspace.
We give your data to nobody else, unless the law forces us to.
Transfers outside the EU
Stripe and the US address service are in the United States. For Stripe, transfers rest on the safeguards it publishes, such as the EU standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For Google, transfers rest on the EU standard contractual clauses that it publishes.
Your rights
You can ask to see your data, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, to receive a copy in a common format, and to object to how we use it. If we use your data because you agreed, you can take that back at any time.
- Delete your files and address now: open your download page and press “Delete my files”. That removes your plates and your addresses from our server at once.
- Anything else: use the contact page and choose “A privacy request”, or write to support@realmofhome.com. Please write from the email address you used for your order, so that we know it is you. We answer within one month.
If you live in a US state with its own privacy law, such as California, you have similar rights, and you can use the same ways to ask. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
Keep your download link private
Your download link is long and random, and anyone who has it can open your plate. Share it only with people you trust.
Children
The shop is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you give us the address of someone else, such as a parent or a friend, please make sure they are happy for you to do so.
Complaints
If you are not happy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or to the authority in the country where you live.
Changes
We may update this page. If a change matters to you, we say so on this page.
