Questions
Things people ask first
Is it really my town?
Yes. Buildings, roads, rivers, lakes, woods and parks come from open map data for the address you type, so your streets and houses sit where they really are. The drawing style is ours.
Which addresses can you draw?
We can draw almost any town, village or address in the world. Where open map data is thin, a plate can show fewer buildings: the free preview shows you exactly what you get. If you type an address somewhere else, we say so plainly and offer to tell you when your country is added. We never show you an example plate in place of your own address.
Where can I buy?
You can pay from the United States (in US dollars, excluding sales tax) and from the countries of the European Union (in euros, VAT included). The United Kingdom is coming soon: it needs a VAT registration first, and you can join the waiting list. Where you pay from and which address you draw are separate choices: a buyer in France can order a plate of an address in the US.
How long does it take?
The free preview takes one to two minutes. You watch real progress while the map data is fetched and the town is raised. After you pay, the print-quality file is drawn, which can take several minutes. You can close the page: the download page opens when it is done, and we email you the link.
What is the difference between Basic and Premium?
Basic is your town in one finish, parchment in colour, with your home in the middle. Premium adds 8 finishes, up to 8 homes lit in your own colours with years and short memories, a route between them, your homes drawn in close detail, landmarks, a dedication letter, the sky above your town on a date you choose, a short reveal film, a family crest, a Christmas edition, a family poster, bigger print sizes and a print-ready PDF. Side by side.
What is the reveal film?
A short, silent film of your plate being uncovered, which comes with Premium. You get it in two shapes: 4:5 for a feed and 9:16 for a story or reel. It is a digital extra to watch and share. The still image is the artwork you print.
What is the sky above my town?
Choose a date, for example a wedding day. The plate then carries a round star chart for that night, worked out for the latitude and longitude of your town from a public-domain star catalogue. It is a Premium option and it needs evening or night light.
I lived in several places. Can they be on one plate?
Places in the same town can: add each address with years and a caption. Places in different towns each get their own plate for $29 in the US or €29 in the EU, and the order can come with a combined family poster of up to 4 towns that hangs them side by side.
I bought Basic. Can I move up to Premium later?
Yes, once per Basic plate. Open your download page and press the upgrade button: you pay only the difference, $20 in the US or €20 in the EU, and design your Premium plate for the same address.
Do you print and ship it?
Yes, if you want. Choose a printed poster at checkout: it is made to order and delivered rolled in a tube, to more than 200 countries, at the same price. Outside the United States and the EU, local taxes or import duties may apply. Or take the files and print them yourself at any print shop. Below is a guide with sizes, paper and what to ask the shop. Printing it yourself.
How do gifts work?
Two ways. You can make a finished plate for someone and pick the day it is unveiled: that morning they get an email with a link, and the plate is uncovered on their screen with your note. Or you can buy a gift code, in dollars or in euros, and they draw their own town. Gifts.
Is the plate accurate?
It follows the real geography closely enough that you will recognise your streets, but it is an artwork. Buildings can be missing, simplified or out of date because the underlying data is made by volunteers. Do not use it to find boundaries or to navigate.
What happens to my address?
It is used to find the place and draw your plate. Addresses and previews are deleted after 90 days. You can delete your files and your address yourself from the download page. Privacy.
Can I fix a typo after I have paid?
Yes, once and for free, within 14 days of delivery. Your download page has a form with your names, years, captions and title. Change what is wrong and we draw the plate again. The places stay as they are: if the address itself is wrong, write to us. Refunds and corrections.
Can I get a refund?
If we cannot deliver the plate you paid for, you are refunded automatically. If you have not downloaded the print files, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days and it is paid automatically. If you have downloaded them, we look at your request. All the details, including the EU right of withdrawal.
Do I pay tax?
US prices exclude sales tax; if sales tax applies to your order, checkout shows it before you pay. EU prices include VAT. You always see the final amount before you pay.
Can I use the plate commercially?
Personal use and gifts, yes. If you want to sell copies or use it in a product, write to us first. The map-data licence needs the credit on the plate to stay visible.
Is there an app?
You can install this site on your phone: it works like an app, and your downloaded plates open offline. Look for “Install the app” at the bottom of the page, or “Add to Home Screen” in your browser menu.
Where is my file?
Your plate is drawn after you pay, usually within 10 to 20 minutes. The download page opens as soon as it is ready and we email you the link. Not in your inbox? Look in your spam folder, or open My plates on the device you ordered from. The link works for 365 days. Still nothing after an hour? Write to us with your order number.
I typed the wrong address. What now?
Write to us as soon as you can with your order number and the right address. A typo in names, captions or years you can fix yourself, once and for free, from your download page. A wrong address needs a new drawing, so we look at it together: we draw it again, or we refund you.
How do I print the file?
Take the PDF (Premium) or the PNG (Basic) to a print shop and ask for full size, scale to fit, no cropping, no colour changes. Matte or archival paper of 200 g/m² or heavier looks best. The printing guide lists sizes, paper and what to ask the shop. If the shop cannot open the file or something looks wrong in the proof, write to us.
I did not get my email.
Check your spam folder first. The download link is also on the page you see right after paying, and in My plates on the same device. Still nothing? Contact us with the email address you used.
